Methadone Maintenance and Detoxification Program

Methadone is a long-acting oral opiate analgesic that suppresses symptoms of opiate withdrawal and reduces cravings without inducing sedation or euphoria. 

METHADONE DETOXIFICATION PROGRAM

The Westside Methadone Detoxification Program provides medical intervention through daily dispensing of methadone and counseling support for up to 180 days to opiate-addicted individuals so they may reduce their dependency on heroin. The program follows a harm-reduction approach to support clients in developing the motivation to become drug-free or free of dependence on illicit drugs. The program is designed to gradually reduce the dosage of methadone with the ultimate goal of being drug-free.

METHADONE MAINTENANCE PROGRAM

The Westside Methadone Maintenance Program for heroin addiction involves daily dispensing of methadone, supervised urine screens, and long-term outpatient counseling The goal of the maintenance program is to reduce the dependency of heroin and replace that addiction with methadone treatment. Participants have the opportunity for health and lifestyle changes through vocation and motivational counseling, referrals for medical treatment, and education counseling. The program includes HIV prevention and testing services.

METHADONE MAINTENANCE TREATMENT PROPOSITION 36

The Methadone Maintenance Proposition 36 Treatment Program for heroin addiction involves daily dispensing of methadone, drug screening, and long-term patient counseling for those convicted of offenses specified by the Proposition 36 Statute.

FEES

Most Westside Programs are free to the public. However, some programs charge a sliding scale fee for the services based upon an individual’s income and ability to pay. Clients and providers can contact the specific program for the scale to determine payment requirements.


REQUREMENTS


Methadone Maintenance Program

Clients must:

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Be currently addicted to opiate(s)
  • Provide a legal picture ID
  • Provide a Medi-Cal card if they are currently eligible for Medi-Cal services
  • Have successfully complete a detoxification program or be referred from another Methadone Maintenance program

Methadone Detoxification Program
Clients must:

  • Be 18 years or older
  • Be currently addicted to opiate(s)
  • Have had at least seven (7) days elapsed since the last episode of detoxification treatment
  • Provide a legal picture ID

REFERRALS

Individuals interested in applying for methadone maintenance or supervised withdrawal (detoxification) services should call to request an appointment between 7:00am and 3:30pm Monday through Friday.
